Martyn’s Law, formally known as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, is a landmark piece of legislation designed to enhance security across public venues in the UK. Named in memory of Martyn Hett, a victim of the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, this law introduces mandatory measures to protect individuals from the threat of terrorism. The law categorises premises based on capacity, ensuring that security practices are proportionate to risk, with smaller venues (200-799 people) adopting simpler measures and larger venues (800 or more) implementing more comprehensive protocols. By fostering a culture of vigilance and preparedness, Martyn’s Law aims to safeguard public spaces while balancing practicality for businesses and organisations.
