Training

The SPS Training division is committed to training for the future. We aim at all times to attract, train and retain individuals, to ensure that we continue to provide a high quality service to customers.

SPS Security Officers are recruited and vetted by a dedicated administration team. The team is responsible for selecting candidates who match the clients requirements and often exceed the Industry profile for Security Officers. Once we have identified candidates that meet this criteria, we put them forward to operations management for their final interview. The client can therefore expect Officers that match the role specification; are fully vetted and professionally trained.

In addition, our recruitment and vetting procedures are rigorous and satisfy all the requirements set out under the BS 7858 and the BSIA. You can be assured that we have the resources and systems in place to guarantee a consistent vetting standard. SPS Security offers its employees a thorough and comprehensive training and development package as such The SPS Training programs cover all industry requirements including the new SIA licensing standards. Our training programs are delivered at a dedicated training centre by our one of our Training Managers. This gives us full control over the standards new or existing Officers attain. And we ensure that oll officers are fully prepared for their duties and role as a security officer.

By ensuring all Officers are professionally trained, the client will feel confident that Officers will be able to perform their duties accurately and to a high standard.

Apart from the required industry training, SPS Security also encourage all of our officers to undertake additional training. The training programs fall under 3 separate categories, they are:

  • Professional training that complies with BS 7499 Part 1:1991
  • Assignment training (site specific)
  • Specialist training to fulfil contractual obligations, and Developmental training for Officers e.g. supervisory programmes

City & Guilds

All Officers will be actively encouraged to undertake SITO/City & Guilds qualification, which is gained through distance learning and examination.

Assignment Training

Our site specific training is designed to provide our customers with Officers who feel comfortable in their working environment and fully prepared to take on their duties. We achieve this through a two tier training program that familiarises Officers with their assignment instructions.

Throughout the contract period, we will review the assignment instructions annually and where relevant adapt to meet any changes in your requirements. Officers will be freshly briefed and where appropriate, trained to perform their new duties. You can therefore be sure that as new demands are placed on your security service, we are ready to act.

Specialist Training to Fulfil Contractual Obligations

More specialist training, such as first aid, CCTV, health & safety and customer care can be provided by our accredited training team. Whatever your needs are throughout the course of the contract our dedicated training managers will either arrange for in-house delivery or source appropriate training or on your premises and always in a style that is relevant to your environment.

Personal Development Training

As part of our policy to invest in our employees we strive to give all Officers the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills. We will review and assess all requests from Officers and if appropriate devise individual development plans.

Training Records

The Security Officers training record is kept within their personnel file and will be monitored frequently to ensure that any shortfalls in performance can be quickly remedied through additional training.

Licensing

After the 20 March 2006 it was illegal to provide or work as an unlicensed security guard.

SPS Security fully support the SIA and works closely with associated bodies to ensure a continuous improvement in national security standards.

The SIA manage the licensing of the private security industry as set out in the Private Security Industry Act 2001. They aim to raise standards of professionalism and skills within the private security industry and to promote and spread best practise.

A key role for the SIA involves the managing and issuing of licences for people working in particular areas of the private security business in England and Wales.

The current designated sectors or activities that must be covered by a licence are as follows:

All SPS Security officers hold a security license relating to their field of expertise and SPS Security continue to work closely with the SIA under its Approved Contractor Status accreditation (ACS).

If you have any questions relating to Security Licensing or Approved Contractor Status then please dont hesitate to contact a member of our team.
